Recovery Educator, Training and Development
I have worked in human services for approximately 30 years with a focus on recovery through education and employment. I have worked with youth and young adults as an Employment Counselor and Special Education Teacher. I served as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor for the State of Arizona, serving adults in recovery from mental health challenges.
From 2002 to the present, I have been a member of the team at RI International. As part of this team, I helped develop and implement the Peer Employment Training Program, and have trained over 1,000 Peer Support Specialists in the United States and New Zealand. From 2009-2014, I helped pilot and expand RI International’s “Wellness City” model, which offers whole-person wellness opportunities to people in recovery from mental health challenges and substance use.
I have over 10 years of experience supervising employees who provide peer support services. Currently I am with the Training and Development Team at RI International. In this capacity I offer trainings in Peer Support and Recovery Skills, Cultural Competency, Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST), and other topics. I have been in recovery from mental health experiences since I was in my teens. For me, employment has been one of the keys to my recovery – especially employment that involves “giving back” to the community.
