Rivers graduated in 1975 from Tulane University with her Master’s in Social Work. In the early part of her career Rivers worked as a Therapist and Clinical Supervisor with children, adolescents and families. She testified as an expert witness in child related matters such as divorce and abuse. After moving West in the early 1990s, she worked as Director and Clinical Director for various psychiatric hospitals. While working in northern Arizona, Rivers worked as Clinical Director for a large Managed Care Company where she had the responsibility for clinical oversight of the northern part of the state. She developed programs such as detox facilities, Residential and Group Treatment Homes for adults and children, Therapeutic Foster Care and Respite. Over the last ten years Rivers has been focused on developing and/or directing a co-occurring treatment facility for adolescent boys, a residential treatment center for preadolescent children and several 16 bed acute units for adults with severe and persistent mental illness.
